We begin the day at Praça do Comércio and ride north along national roads, leaving the city behind as we enter the peaceful suburbs and rural landscapes.
Our first stop is in Vila Franca de Xira for a quick coffee and a local doce (Portuguese pastry) to refuel before continuing the journey.
We roll through quiet villages and countryside filled with pear, grape, and fig tress which are typical of the Ribatejo region. Expect green backroads and perhaps a few fresh figs along the way.
We stop at the traditional salt flats of Rio Maior, where you’ll learn how salt is still harvested today. A delicious lunch at a local restaurant will give you time to relax and explore the area.
After lunch, you can either cycle back to Lisbon via a different scenic route and have another coffee sto or take the train from Azambuja with your bike.
Road bikers and gravel bikers follow the same paved route on this tour.
